බත්පතට දින කුමට...
ජාත්‍යන්තර ප්‍රමිතිගතකරණයට අනුව ලෝක ආහාර දිනය යැයි කියා ගත්ත දිනය සෑම වසරකම ඔක්තෝබර් මස 16 වන දිනට යේදී ඇති අතර සෑම වසරකටම අනන්‍ය වූ ලෙස ආහාර දින තේමාවක් ද පැවතීම මෙහිදී සුවිශේෂී ලෙස කැපී පෙනේ.
මෙසේ මෙවරද අනන්‍ය වූ ආහාර දින තේමාවක් පවතින අතර මෙසේ නිර්මාණය කර ගන්නා වූ ආහාර දිනය සැබවින්ම අර්ථවත් සැමරීමක් ද යන්න යම් තරමකින් ප්‍රශ්නාර්ථයකි. ලොකයේ අනෙකුත් රටවල මෙසේ ආහාර වෙනුවෙන් දිනයක් වෙන් කරගෙන එය සුවිශේෂී ලෙස සැමරීම ඇතැම් විට අර්ථවත් විය හැක. නමුත් පෙරදිග ලොකයේ ධාන්‍යාගාරය ලෙස නම් දරණ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට අද වන විට එය යම් තාක් දුරට උභතෝකෝටියකි.
ශ්‍රීලංකාව තුළ අද වන විට පවතින ආහාර අර්බුදයෙන් බොහොමයක් ශ්‍රී ලාංකික ජනයා බැට කන අතර කුසට අහරක් දින ගනනක් ජලයෙන් පමණක් ජීවත් වන පිරිසක් සිටින බව පැවසීම කනගාටුවට කරුණකි. පලා මැල්ලුමක් සහිතව බත් පත පමනක් රැගෙන එන දරුවන්ද සිටින පසුබිමක හිස් බත් පෙට්ටිය දහවල ආහාර වේල ම පාසලට ගෙන එන දරුවන්ද සිටි. පුංචි පවා එසේ දුෂ්කරතා විඳින සමයක මෙවන් ලෝක ආහාර දිනය යැයි සමරන දිනය ශ්‍රී ලාංකික බහුතර ට පලක් නොවේ.
නමුදු මෙම ලෝක ආහාර දිනය ජයටම සැමරිය හැකි පිරිසක්ද මේ ලංකාව තුළ ජීවත් වන බව එසේම පැවැසීය යුත්තකි. බොහෝ ධනවතුන් පාලකයන් මෙම ආහාර දිනය ජයටම එදිනටම සමරනවා විය හැක. නමුත් කනගාටුදායක කරුණ නම් ඔවුනට මේ කුසට අහරක් නොමැතිව සිටින්නන් ගැන අල්ප මාත්‍ර හෝ හැගීමක් නොමැති වීමයි. ලංකාවේ ප්‍රධාන ස්ථානයක් ලෙස සැලකෙන පාර්ලිමේන්තුව තුළ ඇමැති බලතල වලට ලැබෙන බත්පත තුළ කොපමණ ව්‍යංජන ප්‍රමානයක්, ආහාර අතුරුපස ඇත්තේද යන්න සිතා බලන විට ඇතිවෙන්නේ සාධාරණ කලකිරීමකි. එමෙන්ම ඒතුළින් සිදුවන ආහාර අපතේ යාම, නාස්තිය මහජන මුදල් මෙන්ම ඒ දිනපතා ඉවතලන ආහාර වලින් කුසගින්නේ සිටින්නන් කීදෙනෙකු නම් තෘප්තිමත් කල හැකිද යන්න ඔවුන්ට මොහොතකට වත් සිතෙන්නේ නැති බව නියතය.
එනිසා මෙසේ අලුත්ම පන්නයේ දින සැමරුම් වල සැබෑ ම යථාර්ථය ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයන් ට වටහාගත හැකිද? මෙසේ දින වෙන් කිරීම අර්ථවත් වන්නේද යන්න සැමට පැනයකි.
ඔබ සැමට සිතන්නට යමක් ඉතිරි කරමින් මෙසේ දින සැමරීම අර්ථවත් වන්නේද, අවශ්‍ය වන්නේද යන්න මා මාගෙ හිතැඟියාවට මෙසේ විරාමයක් තබමි.

According to international standardisation, the day called World Food Day falls on October 16 every year, and it is particularly notable that there is a unique theme for the World Food Day every year.
Thus, this year too there is a unique theme and it is somewhat questionable whether the Food Day is really a meaningful celebration. In other countries of the world, it may make sense to set aside a day for food and celebrate it in a special way. But for Sri Lanka, which is known as the "Granary of the Eastern World", today it is somewhat of a dilemma.
It is sad to say that most of the Sri Lankan people are suffering from the current food crisis in Sri Lanka and there are people who are living only on water for several days. There are children who bring only a pack of rice with a single leafy curry, while there are children who bring the empty lunch box to school for the afternoon meal. At a time when even the children are suffering with such difficulties, the day celebrated as World Food Day is not useful for the majority of Sri Lankans.
But it should also be said that there are people living in Sri Lanka who can celebrate this World Food Day. Many wealthy rulers may be celebrating this food day on the exact day. But the sad fact is that they have little or no feeling for those who are starving without food. In the parliament, which is considered to be a key organisation with power in Sri Lanka, it is a reasonable disappointment to think about how much curry, food and desserts are received by the ministerial powers and are wasted. Also, it is certain that they do not even think for a moment about the amount of starving people that can be satisfied with the food and the public money that is wasted every day in the parliament.
So, can Sri Lankans understand the true reality of the latest style of World Food Day celebrations? It is a question for everyone whether it makes sense to dedicate days for food this way.
Leaving something for all of you to think about, I pause to ponder whether it is meaningful or necessary to celebrate the day.
