Colour Their Dreams - Fit Hearts - Grama Prabodhaya
As written by Rtr. Punsara Samarakkody,
We live in a world where the technology has risen up to an unbelievable extent. In order to move ahead in this competitive society, one should be conversant with the modern technology. Nowadays work is almost completely computerized. So the study of IT is essential for the new generation as the technology would rapidly change even more in the future. But as a developing country, Sri Lanka is not capable of providing the required knowledge and equipment for the IT education for some rural schools. Identifying this problem, Rotaract club of University of Moratuwa stepped forward to help these underprivileged schools.
Ranugalla Kanishta Vidyalaya is a school in Monaragala district with nearly 90 students which lacks so many facilities including computer lab facilities. We, Rotaractors hand in hand with Active Citizens, decided to provide sufficient lab facilities as well as the knowledge to use them through the project-Colour your dreams.
The school had no computers as well as a room which is properly wired to be used as a computer lab. They also didn’t have teachers with adequate knowledge about IT to deliver the knowledge to the youngsters in Ranugalla. In order to provide sufficient computer accessories and necessary infrastructure, Fit Hearts team worked hard to find the funds. As they succeeded in their effort, computer accessories with good quality could be bought.
On the scheduled date, 28th October 2017, the rotaractors and the Active Citizens travelled to the beautiful village, Ranugalla. After being warmly welcomed by the acting principle of Ranugalla Kanishta Vidyalaya, we started preparing the laboratory by cleaning the premises as well as the class rooms. Then the most awaited laboratory was set up by the team Fit Hearts.
On 29th October 2017, Ranugalla Kanishta Vidyalaya had organized a small function for the
Then the opening of the lab took place with happy smiles of the villagers and the students which encouraged us to work hard to help people. After the opening, a small session to teach students about the basic knowledge about how to work with the computers was organized. Everyone enjoyed their first experience using the computer
The project “Colour your dreams” ended successfully by adding hope to the youngsters’ dreams in Ranugalla Kanishta Vidyalaya and giving them strength to move forward in the changing world with technology.
