“Education is a right for everyone.”

As Sri Lankan children, what they deserve to get is a proper education. However, due to the inequality of the distribution of resources, nobody can assure that every child in this country will get the same level of knowledge or education that they deserve to receive. Specially, it is important to have a great comprehensive knowledge on a subject such as English, as an approach to the updated knowledge in the modern world. However, the reality is not as easy as simply saying those words. In the social system, while some are having all the necessary resources, others are having none of them. To bridge this difference, many projects are being undertaken by various governmental and non-governmental organizations.

In hopes of promoting this noble work, ‘Inspirer 2019’, a sub project of Grama Prabodhaya, was organized by Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa with the participation of more than 80 students from grades 9-11 who are currently pursuing their studies at Dunupothagama Vidyalaya, Nochchiyagama. The program was held from the 5th of October to the 3rd of November for 3 weeks.

The first week started with an introduction to the purpose of the seminar series and then in order to get an idea about the students’ level of knowledge regarding English, a model paper was discussed. Later, some fun activities such as games and a magic show were conducted so as to keep the students motivated.

In the second week, basic areas such as articles, nouns and tenses where many students make mistakes in English Language were discussed. In addition, lessons which were specially requested by the students, including basic writing skills were taken into discussion and some activities were done relative to them.

Within the final week, all the lessons which were discussed throughout the previous weeks were revised using specially adapted activities, games and exercises.

After a trinity of profoundly effective weeks, ‘Inspirer 2019’ saw its conclusion for this year, leaving a glowing hope to reawaken in year 2020.
