Evince your competency through your résumé - The Résumé 2018

As told by Rtr. Akhila Senevirathne

It is said that it takes an average 7 seconds to make the first impression about one’s self. In today’s corporate world, the competition is immense where businesses are getting bigger and more competitive while you need to bring out that long lasting impression in order to be considered as a prospect for your employer.

Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit, organized “Are You Ready? 2018”,one of the most awaited events in the university calendar comprising a series of workshops held annually for the undergraduates to give a kick start in their professional careers. The starting point of the series was “The Résumé” which was held on the 25th of October at the Civil Auditorium.

As your first impression is the most crucial step for your employer to understand yourself better as a person, the first and the foremost meetup of you and your employer, your curriculum Vitae, needs to be captivating. Thus “The Résumé” was conducted to guide our undergraduates to craft the perfect CV to fit their career. This interactive session was conducted by Mr. Prageeth Wanigasekara, Lead University Relations for MAS Holdings. His dynamism and attentive speaking grabbed the attention of the audience in a very interactive manner. The audience’s visual and auditory senses were immediately diverted towards his effective presentation videos.

The key ingredients to make your CV a stand out from the rest were highlighted, and he gave extremely valuable pointers on what to do and what not to do, giving special attention to the most frequently made mistakes by most applicants. Apart from creating a good CV, he also presented on how to face an interview and that added more value to this educational session.

Reflecting upon the most important pointers and the value added advices presented by Mr. Wanigasekara, we believe that his experience played a vital role in the success of this session and he also gave that confidence to the audience who were present. Furthermore, this would not have been possible if not for the hard work of the Co-chairpersons of “The Résumé 2018”, Rtr. Reshan Dissanayake and Rtr. Chanaka Sampath, and all the supporters who made this event a memorable one.
