As told by Rtr. Piumika Dasanayake,

“A baby is something you carry inside you for nine months, in your arms for three years, and in your heart until the day you die.”

With the intention of uplifting the lives of pregnant mothers who are in love with children they have not met yet, Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa embarked upon a novel initiative, Senehe Yathra 2019. This meritorious program is a sub-project of Grama Prabodhaya 2018/19, organized to commemorate the World Rotaract Week. The project was held on 17th of March 2019 at Hambegamuwa Rajamaha Viharaya and Bodhagama Health Center.

Members of Rotaract Mora along with our president Rtr. Paveen Perera and his parents joined hands with us on the day of the event to complete the project successfully. The morning session was held at Hambegamuwa Rajamaha Viharaya. The reverend Theros and villagers helped us a lot to organize the place. The villagers offered us ‘Kiribath with Lunu Miris’ for our breakfast, and it was indeed a very delicious breakfast. The program started at 9.30 a.m. with a sermon by a Thero. Then, 18 pregnant mothers were gifted with essential goods and baby care products. Afterwards, everyone at the gathering enjoyed refreshments. Amidst all these events, a little baby walked up to the Dharma Hall and filled the place with its laughing and cute talking and grabbed everyone’s attention.

The second program commenced at Bhodagama Health Center at about 12.30 p.m. There, 22 mothers were given essential goods and baby care products. Refreshments were offered to the gathering, and the session wrapped up with a speech by the midwife of the Bhodagama area. The smiles on the faces of the mothers to be and the words of the midwife showed how much this worthy endeavour meant to them.
