An Insight Into The Real Working Environment Of The Future Industry - Inspico 2016

After undergoing a massive struggle in the first semester, the undergraduates of the Engineering Faculty of University of Moratuwa are assigned to different departments based on their preference and results. These undergraduates have made their choices based on different facts hence at times are unaware of the fact that whether it’s the right choice that suits their talents. These enthusiastic undergraduates are eager to understand the industrial norms and needs and what the industry expects once they are graduated. To cater to this requirement, the Annual Industrial Orientation Session – ‘Inspico’ was successfully organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa.

Inspico ‘16 succeeded in organizing three gainful sessions with leading organizations in the month of August. The project was chaired by Rtr. Dasun Pubudumal & Rtr. Heshan Sudarshana.

The first session took place at the Holcim Cement Plant, Puttalam on the 18th August 2016, for the undergraduates of the Department of Chemical & Process Engineering with the immense support of Mr. Jayantha Perera (Administration Manager of Holcim). Transport was provided to our team from the Palavi station to the factory and back. During the session a few presentations were presented on ‘safety measures’, ‘personal protection equipment’ and ‘cement production’. Both light refreshment and lunch were provided to the team followed by a site visit which was indeed helpful for the Rotaractors to gain practical knowledge which no doubt will add a great value to their future studies.

The second session was organized at hSenid Mobile Solutions on the 25th August 2016 for the undergraduates who are eagerly waiting to join the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The success of this session was the cooperation extended to us by HR Executive Ms. Isuri Mendis who assisted in organizing the event until concluded. The session comprised couple of presentations which indeed were very useful in gaining further knowledge in the respective field. A fun activity was organized by the institution where the winners were gifted with t-shirts & stickers.

The third session was held at Access Engineering Site (Colombo 08) and D.P. Jayasingha site (Colombo 08) on the 27th August 2016. This session was organized for the Rotaractors who are selected to the Department of Civil Engineering. The team of Rotaractors was first taken to the Access Engineering site which was a piling site where they got the chance to go through a few presentations on ‘piling processes’ on the ongoing project. Subsequently they were able to witness the practical applications on the process that they learnt through the presentation at the site visit. Finally they were accompanied to D.P Jayasingha work site where they further extended their knowledge in piling process and few other methods of Civil Engineering.

Currently the team of Inspico is waiting for confirmation of dates from Vidullanka PLC & Fonterra Brands Lanka. Discussions are taking place with the Executive- Talent Acquisition and Resourcing of Millennium Information Technologies. Most likely these sessions will commence in the month of September.
