Discovering the scientists within them - Intellect - Phase 1
As told by Rtr. Sachitha Bandara,
Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.
‘Intellect’ is a small step Rotaract Mora has taken to make the world a better place. It is a subproject of Edify which comes under the main project Gramaprabodhaya which acquires much recognition in the Community Service avenue. The first phase of Intellect was successfully completed on the 9th and 10th of September 2017 at Ranugalla Kanishta Vidyalaya, Monaragala.
Though having a good intellectual com petence instilled in them, the rural locality deprives these children of acquiring the standard of knowledge needed. With the hope of bridging this gap, our team entered upon this worthy cause.
The project was mainly focused on the students who’d be facing their O/L examination in a few months. Upon entering the school premises we were surprised that the little ones awaited with much hope kindled in them as they were already prepared to welcome us. They were truly inspired by the motivational session that was conducted by our fellow Rotaractors. They listened and interacted well with us ensuring that their self-confidence and morale were high. It is much needed in preparing for the examination.
The 1st phase underlined the Science subject and the children were given a model test paper that they could estimate their own level of understanding. Our team gave attention to each and every child, answered their questions and cleared all their doubts on the subject. They happily interacted with us making sure that they grabbed every bit of knowledge. Topics including time management, writing to the point and question selection were also discussed.
The Science seminar was conducted, in series with the discussion of the paper, the resource persons being our very own Rotaractors. This enabled them to delve in to the depths of the subject matter and get hold of the bits and pieces that they had missed when revising. Our team made sure that every child got his or her problems attended.
They heartily thanked us for giving them this opportunity to face the examination with courage and determination. We were highly satisfied with their progress and the sparks of their innocent eyes inspired us to conduct the next phases of Intellect with much more dedication and commitment.
