Love (Not the Fantasy Version)

Love, what is it truly…? When I was not yet of an age that was exposed to the harsh realities of the world, parents’ love, barbie movies, and cartoons were what tainted the word love with understanding. Now that I am older, I see the reality is far beyond the rainbows and fairytales I have imagined.

It is no fairytale. It can be, but it requires work. But … if you are one of those extremely lucky people, it will be handed to you on a silver platter. For others, the majority I guess, it is hard work. Same as everything. They would crash only to revive stronger than ever. But some, they crash and burn. Even if they recover, it would be fragile. They don’t recover completely. Witnessing all of these is another group of sentimental beings cowering in the furthest corners, shielding themselves from the pain.

Despite life's challenges, love remains mysterious, stirring emotions within us. It's like a guiding light in our darkest moments but it can also feel very overwhelming, like a blasting storm. Love, at its core, is a mix of vulnerability and strength. It's about being loyal and supportive through thick and thin.

But love isn't always smooth sailing. It can test our endurance with rejection and unfulfilled yearnings, leaving us feeling like a broken clock, unable to face the next coming second. Yet, amidst the chaos, love prevails, connecting us in ways beyond time and space. Embracing love means embracing our humanity, with all its cracks and dents.

So, here’s to taking risks, and working hard for a happily ever after in a world with no fairies, fairy godmothers, helpful dwarfs, or magic flowers. It won’t be easy, but as the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson once wrote;

"tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
