My Rotaract Journey: A Path of Growth, Friendship, and Service

Apr 25, 2025

My journey with Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa began on February 3rd, 2024, at Rota Spark24, the club’s signature orientation event for new members. As I stepped into the event, I never imagined that it would be the beginning of an incredible adventure filled with friendships, leadership opportunities, and the chance to make a meaningful impact. That day, I met many like-minded individuals who were not just friends but family, felt as a second home away from home.

Shortly after, I had the privilege of taking on a leadership role in Premio Formalita and Prom 24, a prestigious event celebrating excellence. Serving primarily under the finance pillar, this was my first time chairing an event alongside four other co-chairpersons. The responsibility was immense, but the experience was even greater. The event was a tremendous success and seeing everything come together flawlessly was a moment of pride for all of us.

Being entrusted with such a role so early in my journey was both an honor and a challenge that helped me grow immensely. To my surprise and delight, I was awarded the Emerging Rotaractor title at Premio Formalita, a recognition that only a few from my batch, the 23rd batch, received. It was a humbling moment, and it fueled my passion to continue contributing to the club.

Determined to be actively involved, I embraced multiple opportunities within Rotaract. Since September, I have been the compere for all general meetings, ensuring seamless execution of these gatherings. I also compered the 1st Induction Ceremony and the November General Meeting, experiences that enhanced my confidence and public speaking skills. My passion for hosting extended to being the moderator for the January General Meeting and the 2nd Induction Ceremony.

The 2nd Induction Ceremony was particularly special to me because it marked the day I was officially inducted as a Rotaract member. That moment of receiving my induction certificate was filled with pride, as I could finally call myself a true Rotaractor. It signified not just my commitment to the club but also the start of a deeper involvement in its projects and initiatives.

Beyond hosting events, I also explored the organizational side of Rotaract. I was part of the organizing committee for Binara Padura, a night filled with music, rhythm, and togetherness, which showcased the rich culture and creativity within our club and also Monster Mash 3.0, an event held to celebrate the spooky night of halloween.

Currently, I am chairing Zooxanthellae, a project dedicated to coral reef restoration, a cause close to my heart as it directly contributes to environmental sustainability. Additionally, I am part of the finance pillar in a key project which is Grama Prabodhya, which focuses on rural community development, and an event organizing member of the Rota Spark 2025, the very event that introduced me to this wonderful community.

Looking ahead, I am eager to continue my journey in Rotaract, seizing every opportunity to serve, lead, and grow. This experience has already shaped me in countless ways, and I am excited to contribute even more towards the betterment of society while climbing new heights in my Rotaract journey. The road ahead is filled with possibilities, and I am ready to embrace them with enthusiasm and dedication.
