Not just a project, it was a beautiful journey….
I never thought that a project could become such a memorable experience for me. I co-chaired this project thinking it was just another project. In the Colours Project, we had to organize a “Spend the Day” event for kids who are suffering from cancer.
We decided to organize a magic show for them and donated money for their dinner that day. We also wanted to prepare a beautiful gift for them. So, a few of our OC members got together and went to Pettah. We spent the whole day there and bought amazing gifts for them.
We planned to give them floating balloons. They are kids, right? They love those kinds of things. We also planned to have two mascots, and we arranged the ending as a singing session. We wanted to do everything that can make them happy. Before the event day we got together and wrapped all the gifts. Those days were so memorable.
On the relevant day, we went there at about 1 p.m. We had a moderator in our organizing team, and she did her part beautifully. First, we introduced Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh, our two mascots. The kids were so happy to see them.
Then the magic show started, and it was a great success. Their faces lit up with happiness. After that, we gave them their gifts, and they really liked them. Then the singing session started, and they sang joyfully with our team. The most exciting thing they received was the floating balloons—they really loved them. Finally, our program had to end. We were very happy because it was such a successful event.
At the end, we got the chance to serve dinner to them. Not only the kids, but there were also elderly people at CCC who were suffering from cancer. We helped the nurses and caregivers serve dinner, and it was a very precious moment in my life.
From the start, there were many people behind the success of this event. The organizing team helped us with a lot of the work. This project was a subproject of the Hand in Hand fundraising program, where many kind-hearted people donated money. Our Community Avenue directors and the co-chairs of the Colours Project from last year guided us throughout the project. This was a collective effort from all of us.
We should always remember to be kind to everyone. Even a small act of kindness can make others happy. If you can bring happiness to someone else, that is a true win in life. Those precious moments will stay in your heart for the rest of your life.
