The 16th Annual T. R. R. Rajan’s Memorial Cricket Carnival was held on 8th September 2018 at the Provincial Sports Complex, Digana. The popular six-a-side cricket tournament was organized by Rotary Club of Kandy in memory of the outstanding Rotarian, T. R. R. Rajan, who was the 51st president of Rotary Club of Kandy and one of the most dedicated members in the history of the Rotary District 3220. More than 40 Rotaract and Rotary clubs joined in this event and the event commenced with a grand opening ceremony with the participation of Rotaractors, Rotarians and their family members. The energy, strength and the unity of the Rotarians and the Rotaractors were witnessed during this cricket tournament. I’m sure all the members who had gathered felt the beauty of being in a team and being supported by their teammates.
The matches continued throughout the day, not only displaying the sportsmanship of the Rotarians and the Rotaractors but also increasing the bond of friendship between the clubs. The day was made even more exciting by the games that commenced, such as the Best Cheerleading Team. After a thrilling series of matches, Rotaract Club of Panduwasnuwara emerged champions while Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura emerged Runners-Up in the men’s series. Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa emerged champions in the women’s series. The Rotary Championship was won by Rotary Club of Nallur.
Even though the tournament came to an end, the bond among the Rotarians and the Rotaractors strengthened showing that it is just the beginning of an enduring future of Rotary and Rotaract clubs of district 3220.
