“The Science of today is the technology of tomorrow”-Edward Teller
We live in a world of science and technology. Scientific inventions and modern day technologies have completely changed the human life and have paved the way for our future. Hence in this age, the study of science is a necessity. Without scientific study, a modern man is like a bullock cart lumbering behind a motorized vehicle. Science builds positive lifelong learning habits, behaviors and attitudes as well as it enhances creativity, imagination and tolerance for adaptation to change.
The school currently faces a huge problem with the lack of teachers. Even though science lab facilities were available in the school, the students were unable to take any advantage of it because of inadequate education on proper handling of lab equipment.
The ‘SciWiz’17’ workshop was held on the 11th and 12th of November at the school premises. 11th November was a bright and sunny day. The Rotaractors arrived to the school at around 8.30 am where the students were eagerly waiting. First, the students were divided into groups according to their grades. The Rotaractors were also divided accordingly to demonstrate the practicals. It was easy for the Rotaractors to do the practicals because, some of the theory areas related to the practicals were covered earlier by the Rotaract club of University of Moratuwa as another sub project o
After the workshop, the Rotaractors had a feedback session with the students of the school on what they gained from the workshop. It was truly a joy to know that they enjoyed learning from the workshop. The Rotaractors advised the students on how to face the exam, how to answer the questions, about studying methods, etc during the feedback session.
SciWiz’17 was indeed a success. Rotaract Mora looks forward for more SciWiz-s in the future!
