Soorya Rashmi - Awurudu Celebrations 2016

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival, “Soorya Rashmi”, which was organized by Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa was concluded successfully on the 7th of May 2016 with the participation of the club members as well as various enthusiasts. The main objective of this event was to perform the traditional New Year rituals as well as for everyone to get together and enjoy the day. As per the customs, lighting the hearth and boiling the milk was done by the President of the club Amitha Bandara along with the Assistant President of the club Chamal Kuruppu, with the hope that the dawned new year being filled with happiness and prosperity to everyone. Having the meals was done in a house beautifully designed with the participation of everyone.

Then the traditional new year games began with “Kana Mutti Bindeema”. Blowing balloons, lime and spoon, sack racing were some of the traditional games which gave an immense enjoyment to the gathering. Games which enhanced the team spirit and mutual understanding such as three feet running, egg catching and feeding yogurt were also there for the participants to enjoy whereas games like “Pani Bambaraya Karakeema” and finding the coin managed to get the attraction of everyone. The speciality of the event was that everyone attended participated in at least one game. During the whole day, everyone enjoyed the even to the maximum and at the end of the day gifts were given to the games’ winners by the organizing committee. Also prizes were given to everyone who were involved in organizing the event and making it a grand success. Thereby the new year festival, “Soorya Rashmi” concluded successfully.
