The Silent Warrior

What are the names that pops up in your mind when you hear the word ‘warriors’? Julius Ceasar, Alexander the Great, Napolean Bonaparte, Chandashoka or is it King Dutugemunu?

When my batchmate asked me whether I can write the blog this week I was a little bit confused about what I am going to write on ‘the unseen things’. ‘Warriors’ was the first word that emerged within me. I googled the meaning and it said, ‘A brave or experienced soldier or fighter’.

I knew very less about the warriors in the past who contributed to write the world history. I knew very little about their battles and the people who were privileged by those battles.

But I have seen hundreds of people who fight their own battles every single day. I have witnessed their 24/7 battles to make some money for their living, to feed their children, to educate them and to fulfill all the other needs that roll down their way. So set your minds to read about the kind of warriors that I have seen in my lifetime.

In my smallest days, the kind of warriors I knew were the above-mentioned great personalities who changed the world history with their bravery. But with the time, the grown-up version of myself understood that there are some other personalities who deserve the name warrior. But who were they?

Few of them were the workers in the nearby factory, the people who came to work in my father’s paddy fields, the small food vendors, the aunties who sold incense sticks or simply the people who tried to find their daily living in some other way.

But now as a university undergraduate I can observe the world in a third eye. And that eye shows me not only the those people but also 90% of the people in our society are warriors, including myself.

Most of the time people only see the smooth side of a person’s character. We see the well-educated, good natured, kindhearted doctor. But we don’t see how hard he had studied to come to that level. How many things had he sacrificed in the journey of achieving his goals? We see his victory. But we never see the warrior who fought in the battle fields of anatomy or biochemistry.

We see the teacher who is teaching the children very hardly. But we never know how many lessons plans she had written or how many sleepless nights she had passed while preparing for the lessons. We see the high-income banker who dresses smart and walk proudly. But we never know how tired he is at the end of the day. How he is yearning for a vacation that he never gets. We see all green paddy fields. But we can never ever understand how hard that farmer worked to get that green color all over the field. You see the greatest designs in the world. But no one can ever imagine how restless it was for the designer till he completed the project.

So, we all are warriors in our own battlefields. Either physically or mentally. No matter what there will be no one else to fight for your dreams. No one will be there to chase your dreams at the end of the day. You are the only person to chase your dreams, to fight in your battles. You are a warrior in your own story. Make your journey a story of victory.

Fate whispers to the warrior, ‘You cannot withstand the storm The warrior whispers back, ‘I am the storm.’
