Create Your Own Trademark -YouTM - Are You Ready? -2017

The You TM session of “Are You Ready? 2017” was held on the 23rd October at the Civil Auditorium of University of Moratuwa. The session emphasized the importance of professional development and personal branding for the future of the graduates who are to be exposed to the industry. The co-chairpersons of the session were Rtr. Malitha Gunawardhana and Rtr. Gayal Sameera.
The session initiated with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the distinguished guests and the welcome speech by the Co-Chairperson of the session Rtr. Gayal Sameera.
The first half of the session started with an inspiring speech by the distinguished guest Mr. Janaka Gallage, the General Manager – Finance of Fonterra Brands for Sri Lanka and Indian Sub continent who also graduated as an engineer from University of Moratuwa. He emphasized the importance of building up an image for oneself and described how success comes from self-packaging and self-improvement. Throughout his inspirational speech, he presented how personal branding can be used as an advantage in the industry and the correct procedure of building up one’s image.
Then the second half of the session commenced with a panel discussion between the undergraduates and a professionally qualified panel. The panel included Mr. Sahan Gunasekara, manager of Health & Safety- Fonterra Brands Lanka, Mr. Chaminda Bandara, Head of Information Systems- Fonterra Brands Lanka, Mr. Niradh Perera, Manager of Manufacturing Excellence- Fonterra Brands Lanka and Mrs. Aranthi Fernando, Assistant Manager for Customer Service & Logistics- Fonterra Brands Lanka.
The questions raised by the undergraduates were discussed with audience. Questions regarding the qualifications needed for different industries including the company cultures and behaviors were answered. Finally the panel gave an insight about the current situation of the industry and the opportunities for the undergraduates in the near future.
The day filled with knowledge and experience gathered from the experts from the industry came to an end with the vote of thanks delivered by the co-chairperson of the session, Rtr. Malitha Gunawardhana, following the national anthem.
