Binara Padura - A Twilight of Music and Memories
Lagaan was adorned with overhanging lights and mandala arts, transforming the premises into a vibrant tapestry of music. The stage illuminated by multiple shades of light combined with melodies and rhythms, stirred the souls of the many music enthusiasts in the audience making it a night to remember. This is how 'Binara Padura 2.0' captured the hearts of many undergraduates of the University of Moratuwa on the 23rd of August 2023, with its seraphic rhythms and winsome melodies, etching stories of delight and ecstasy in the chambers of many hearts.
This musical event was organized by 'Podi 5' (the five board members of the 22nd Batch) under the guidance of the Club Service Avenue. The preparations for the event began at the start of August, with many passionate individuals on the organizing committee including talented singers, dancers, instrumental players, content writers, and video editors. An extensive PR campaign (both live and virtual) was conducted to publicize the event. Flyers were shared on social media, and posters were displayed throughout the campus. During this time, decorations for the event were also crafted, transforming the Lagaan into a magical venue. This project was initiated in hopes of bringing together the newest 22nd batch of the University of Moratuwa and introducing them to Rotaract Mora.
The event began at 6:30 pm in the Lagaan and featured 27 songs by talented university musicians, who had put in many long hours of practice to perfect their performances in a short period of time, resulting in a timeless performance that will surely continue to resonate in many hearts. Throughout the night, there were several magical moments that left a lasting impression on the audience. Some songs were accompanied by eye-catching dances performed by dance troupes from different faculties. The band started with slow, soulful songs at the beginning and gradually picked up the pace with faster songs that led to a series of high-energy performances, culminating with a baila at the end that had everyone on their feet. From the diverse lineup to the magical moments and the sense of community, it was an unforgettable night of music and celebration.
Even though the event started a bit behind schedule, the air was charged with excitement thanks to the uninterrupted entertainment provided by the band, and it seemed to end at the intended time. However, the crowd kept urging the band to continue even after the baila had finished, which was a testament to the event's massive success.
The day transitioned from evening to night seamlessly, closing the musical flourish with the enthusiasm of the 400+ undergraduates because, after all, music is a passage to escape reality and wonder about a world unknown, surpassing all known barriers and bringing people together. As we look back on this extraordinary event, we are reminded of the power of music to bring joy, unity, and pure bliss to our lives. Its echoes remain and will continue to remain in our hearts as an indelible part of our personal symphony. It was a night of shared enchantment, and in its end, we found solace and inspiration.
