Mind Magic: Building a Brain-Controlled Smart Car!

1.What is EEG? (Reading the Mind)

Ever dreamed of being able to move objects through mere thoughts? Well, with a technology known as EEG (Electroencephalography), it is possible to come pretty close to achieving this dream!

Imagine the EEG technology as a kind of stethoscope for the brain. Whenever we think, concentrate or even rest, the cells of our brain communicate through minute electrical impulses. The EEG headset is a device worn on one’s head to capture these minute electrical impulses. Based on one’s emotions and activities, the brain produces unique kinds of waves.

2. My Project: The Brain-Controlled Smart Car

I used this amazing EEG technology to build a smart car that I can control using only my mind. I do not use a remote control, a joystick or a mobile phone. I just use my thoughts.

How Does It Work?

I wear a special headset called the NeuroSky MindWave Mobile 2. It reads my brain waves from my forehead and sends them to the car using Bluetooth.

· Going Forward: When I focus very hard (like solving a math problem in my head), my 'Attention' level goes up. The headset detects the wave patterns for this high attention and the car is driven forward.

· Going Backward: When I close my eyes, take a deep breath, and relax, my 'Meditation' level goes up. The headset detects the wave patterns for this meditation, and the car is driven backward.

· Stopping: If I am just acting normal (not focusing too hard and not relaxing too much), the car stops.

Hardware (The Parts I Used & Safe Connections)

Here are the main parts inside my car and how they are safely connected to each other:

1. ESP32 Microcontroller: The 'brain' of the car. It receives the Bluetooth signals from NeuroSky MindWave Mobile 2 headset.

2. L298N Motor Driver: It takes commands from the ESP32 and distributes power to the motors.

3. Batteries: The L298N motor driver is powered directly by two 18650 cells (7.4 volts), not from the ESP32’s 3V3 pin connection.

3. Conclusion

It was such an awesome experience for us to create this brain control car and look into the future of tech. So, we can see that we can control real physical objects with just our thoughts and with relatively cheap equipment. And yes, we can do it!

Not only small projects, but world changes are already made and there's a big breakthrough in this field. For instance, people from the University of Washington have made a breakthrough in the project of Brain Net. They can connect human brains using EEG and TMS (Brain Stimulation) technologies. They made it possible for people to share thought signals and play a video game together cooperatively. Also, the company from Elon Musk - Neuralink. They are making brain chips that are implantable in the brain. So, we can control computers and smartphones without hands completely. They now test these chips on humans. The ultimate goal is that we can communicate by mind to mind (telepathy) directly.

But we should remember that we can send only simple signals (like "yes", "no" or basic actions) in nowadays. We still can't send complex messages and deep emotions to the other's brain as we do in normal communication.

But still, the future of these innovations is limitless. Imagine how many people can benefit from this? Those who have serious physical disabilities can control their wheelchairs or even control their smart homes with this exact technology. The era of Mind-Machine interactions is just beginning!
